One Thing: Savoring
Getting more out of what's already here.
Hi friends,
A writing colleague shared about taking “shots” of hot maple syrup mid-run, straight from the sugar shack on the Vermont farm where she lives. I have never done this during a run. But the moment I heard it, I could taste it. Warm, sweet, and sticky. Sugar straight to the brain and muscles mid-stride. Even without having the experience, I found myself enjoying it.
That is what it means to savor something. You let the moment land, instead of racing right past it.
This week, Bill Burnett and Dave Evans (the authors of Designing Your Life) talked about savoring on Rich Roll’s podcast. Savoring is a way to build meaning by getting more out of what is already here in your life.
Savoring
While I did not have hot maple syrup this week, I did have moments worth lingering with. If you want to try a simple practice, here is Bill and Dave’s “7th Day Savoring”:
Name one thing from this past week that you are grateful for.
Return to that moment. Re-enter it as you remember it.
Let yourself bask in it for five minutes. Give it your honest attention.
When you double down on the joy of a positive moment, you deepen the experience and generate a sense of meaning. It costs only a few minutes and your undivided attention.
One more thing: my Design Your Joyful Life group starts April 15, and there are limited spots remaining. We’ll use Bill and Dave’s design thinking approach to clarify your values, reconnect with your energy and joy, and build a next chapter that’s worth savoring. You can apply and learn more here.
Take care,
Lisa

Thanks for the shoutout Lisa. So glad you could savor it virtually! This practice of savoring brings to mind another Substack I have just started reading and love. It's called Tell me three good things. I think you'd appreciate as well!
