One Thing: Summer, By Design
Plus, monthly-ish personal updates.
Hi friends,
Happy summer solstice. I feel myself stretching and expanding a bit with the longer days. I also notice an old habit: telling myself the story that “summer’s basically over” before it even really starts. (Anyone else from a higher latitude get this?)
One thing that helps me slow down and push back on that story is setting a few intentions. It’s a simple way to name what I want, stay grounded, and squeeze a little more juice out of this season.
Summer, By Design
How will you make this summer truly yours?
Take ten minutes to brainstorm what you’d love to do, feel, and experience in each area:
Work: what you do (paid + unpaid)…or maybe what you intentionally don’t do
Health: physical, emotional, spiritual
Play: fun for its own sake
Love: connection flowing to and from you
Choose your top thing in each area, and let everything else be a nice-to-have. You can also apply this to a vacation or trip. Try it with the whole family!
Take good care,
Lisa
A few things, lately
My monthly-ish personal updates. It’s not easy to categorize them into the same four areas because there’s a lot of overlap between work, health, play, and love right now.

WORK: I wrapped up the third cohort of Design Your Joyful Life and hosted a one-year reunion for the inaugural cohort. This brings me so much joy it honestly belongs in every category.
HEALTH: I learned so much from my HYROX doubles race in NYC. It’s inspired me to train for a solo race this fall, and to build a coaching project around the mental side of recreational racing (stay tuned!).
PLAY: I’m currently reading the The Alter Ego Effect (nonfiction) and The Future Saints (fiction). I did my first ocean plunge of the summer and hope it’s the first of many afternoons at the beach.
LOVE: It’s that time of year when people start coming to Maine, and we’ve had sweet, quality time with family visiting from across the country.
